A quick perusal of the hashtag speedytuesday currently brings up more than 42,000 posts. To say that it’s been widely adopted by omega replica watches swiss movement enthusiasts and Speedmaster owners would be quite an understatement. (And if you know watches on Instagram, you also know that others have tried to create similar hashtags, but none have been as successful or long-lasting as this one.)
And in tribute, the new Omega Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday Limited Edition has now arrived. It contains a couple of pretty amazing firsts.
For one, it is a Speedmaster model whose existence was wholly inspired by a social media phenomenon initiated by enthusiast Robert-Jan Broer, the founder of Fratello Watches, a popular blog containing almost encyclopedic amounts of information about the Omega Speedmaster.
For another: it marks the first imitation Omega watch to be officially sold online – specifically through Instagram in addition to the brand’s own website – by Omega’s parent company Swatch Group.
And, lastly, it offers a unique inverse panda dial, which comprises silvery white chronograph counters against the backdrop of a pitch black dial, a long-awaited combination for Speedmaster enthusiasts that was inspired by the look of the Alaska Project III model created for NASA in 1978. The reverse panda is a look first used by Omega in 1966.
This stainless steel fake omega watch, which comes with an extra NATO strap and strap-changing tool, is offered in a limited edition of 2,012 pieces because Broer coined the hashtag speedytuesday in the year 2012. Upon ordering for $6,500, you can even determine the edition number you’d like (subject to availability). But you’d better hurry: this particular speedytuesday is only going to be here once.
